CLIENT: The Department of Family and Communities
BUDGET: $3.2 million
COMPLETION: January 2014
This centre is a new purpose built building which offers a welcoming, culturally inclusive and relaxing learning environment that supports each child’s learning and wellbeing.
The modern facility is designed to be a welcoming place for Aboriginal people that will support culturally relevant and safe early childhood education and care, parent and family support and early childhood health services in a beautifully finished space.
Cullunghutti is the name of the local Aboriginal area, also known as Mount Coolangatta, it was chosen as the name of the facility because of the cultural and spiritual significance it has for Aboriginal people.
The centre will be a jointly managed facility, with Relationships Australia NSW offering family support services and Illawarra Area Child Care delivering the early learning services.
The Cullunghutti Aboriginal Child and Family Centre won a regional NAIDOC award for providing a significant place of belonging for local Aboriginal families.
